What is P.O.T.S?

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome is often referred to as ‘pots’ is a form of dysautonomia and neurological condition that impacts many Australians and people around the world.

POTS is a condition that affects the autonomic nervous system, leading to an abnormal increase in heart rate when transitioning from lying down to standing up. People with POTS experience symptoms such as:

  • dizziness

  • lightheadedness

  • fainting (presyncope or syncope)

  • headaches

  • pain

  • brain fog

  • sleep disturbances

  • gastrointestinal issues

  • fatigue

  • an inability to regulate blood pressure properly

  • these are just some of the symptoms….

What is Dysautonomia?

Dysautonomia is an umbrella term used to describe a number of conditions that are ‘disruptions of the autonomic nervous system’. Normally, when you stand up, your autonomic nervous system will control your cardiovascular system to maintain your blood pressure. People who are experiencing POTS are unable to regulate this system, which often means your blood pressure will change and heart rate will spike.
